Elevate Your Air WITH TRADEMASTERS
We don’t just breathe the air around us. We live in it. The air we live in impacts our health, comfort and how we feel. In Edmonton, indoor air quality is of utmost concern as we typically spend up to 90% of our time indoors. This is an excellent time to consider your indoor air quality equipment options.
TradeMasters can advise on a full line of reputable and trusted products to improve your Edmonton home’s indoor air quality and filtration. Installed on your furnace system, they provide a whole home solution. These important system components are now being recognized as indoor air quality essentials, not just accessories.
INDOOR AIR PURIFICATION
Why install an air purifier?
Continuous disinfection of the air, lowering the concentration of mold, bacteria and viruses.
High intensity UV lamp increases disinfection power in the airstream.
Low maintenance — lamp only needs to be changed every 3 years on average.
Whole home treatment against airborne microorganisms and odors.
Your home’s air is quietly sanitized as your heating/cooling system circulates the air.
Time-tested UV technology is used for indoor disinfection in hospitals and food processing. It works!
Combining an air purifier with a HEPA filter is recommended for optimal results.
INDOOR AIR FILTRATION
The typical 1” furnace filter is designed only to protect your furnace from outside debris. Filters that are designed to improve whole house indoor air quality include:
HEPA filters. Stands for “high efficient particulate air” filter. They remove dust, pollen and microbes from the air. Some contain germicidal properties. The cartridges do need changing. They do not trap gasses like volatile organic compounds but can be combined with a unit that does. See Purification, above. Combining a HEPA filter with an air purifier is recommended for optimal results.
Electronic air cleaners. These filters use a very low wattage of electricity to provide more air scrubbing than the Electrostatic, described below.
Electrostatic air cleaners. The filter is charged with static electricity to attract any particles passing through to the filter’s membrane. The charge does wear out after time. This is not a permanent filter.
Four-inch pleated filters. These filters can trap a high volume of dust and particles without limiting airflow to the furnace.
AIR VENTILATION – HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATOR
You cannot have good indoor air quality without proper ventilation, especially with Edmonton’s energy efficient and sealed homes. We simply must have fresh air from outside to live. The absolute best way to accomplish that important task is with a heat recovery ventilator. The heat recovery ventilator brings in fresh outdoor air and exhausts stale indoor air at the exact same time. This creates the perfect balance of the air we are breathing while retaining heat. A heat recovery ventilator is an indoor air quality requirement for Edmonton secondary or basement suites.
HUMIDIFICATION
Northern climates and dry winter air go hand and hand. Having proper humidity control is crucial to comfort and indoor air quality in Edmonton. Improper humidity control causes a host of problems — from dry skin to breathing problems. It can also severely affect the building itself. Causing damage to wood windows, floors and more.
